Know the signs: heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke

Heat exhaustion looks like heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, and nausea — move the person somewhere cool, have them sip water, and cool the skin. It becomes heat stroke — a life-threatening emergency — when the skin goes hot and dry (sweating stops), body temperature spikes, and the person becomes confused or passes out. Cool them aggressively and call emergency services immediately.

Extreme cold: staying warm when the grid is down

A winter grid-down event is the more familiar prepper scenario, and the playbook is the mirror image of summer: keep the heat you generate from escaping, and generate a little safely.
